The Story of a Journey towards Betterment...

To stand as general secretary before the gathering of 300 council representatives of Indian medical association –A.P. state which consists of 20000 doctors as its disciplined members, is a proud privilege for me and that too at the spiritually enriched land of puttaparthi-on 28-9-08.

Commencing our charge and responsibilities with our aim towards one goal.i.e. Transforming our Indian medical association as policy maker and the best N.G.O. in our country.

Dreams are always big. Its also better to have mega dreams according to our beloved past Indian national president sri.Abdul Kalam.

But, Planning should be nearer to the reality. Coming to the execution, we have to overcome hurdles of nature of silly & simple to nutty & tough.

Preceding our oath ceremony, we have completed 156th.state working committee and state council meetings and the formal election process was also completed in a ceremonial atmosphere.

All the state office bearers were elected for the year 2008-09.

• Immediate concern :
Amendments to the “A.P. private allopathic medcal establishment registration & regulation act-2002”
and complete withdrawal of G.O.no. 420 regarding imparting training of quacks as community paramedics-
---------- are the two main agenda we have to negotiate with state govt.

Enhancing our membership strength, sending more representatives to center and raising our fraternity benefit to grieved families and internal discipline – are our major concern.

Fortunately, we have Dr.N. Apparao as our guide who dedicated his time and health to the betterment of our association, for which he has been recognized with highest medallion of our IMA- “lifetime achievement award”.

Taking the cue from the blessings of spiritual teacher, walking with encouragement of our association’s head master and running with positive feed back of our state senior leaders and getting enough steam from the strength of our 20000 members – we have done some prestigious mega programs along with discharging of our traditional work.


Like beads in the chain along with small pearls basing on strong thread-
We have enriched our association with these wonderful programs and we have discharged our traditional duties of visiting branches, promoting the right comradier in our association with the blessings of our mentor.

In October-08—50th. Golden jubilee state IMA conference at guntur- galla aruna kumari-hon.health minister of A.P. and sri.k.lakshminarayana-hon. Transport minister of A.P. encouraged our association by delivering their crisp messages as guests of honor.

In november-08- 200th. CWC meet at tirupati.- again, smt.galla aruna kumari our beloved health minister is there to bless us along with dr.ketan desai and other national IMA leaders.
We have conveyed our strong opposition regarding G.O. no.420 to the health minister.

In December – 83rd. national IMACON at indore.-we got number of awards to our a.p. state IMA at personal & branch levels for the excellent work executed in the year 2007-08.
“ the highlight of the conference is- oath taking ceremony of -our beloved leader and simple&humble human being having charisma all over Andhra- Dr.G.Samaram as national IMA president elect. He is the second person to achieve this honor after sri. Dr.Jayachandra Reddy.
After Dr.Gutta.Suresh, it’s the turn of our Dr.B.N.Reddy to don the mantle of hon.secretary of national IMA- AMS chapter.

In January-09 :

In feb-09- national president visit, inauguration of beautiful 3rd. floor of our IMA guest house and making our IMA panel members as office bearers of A.P. medical council.

Sri.Sambhani.Chandrasekhar –hon.health minister of A.P.& our national IMA president Dr.Ashok Adhao were kind enough to inaugurate this guest house on that evening.

Dr.Sivalingam , Dr.Saboo &Dr.Rajendra were instrumental in achieving this distinction of having large ,beautiful guest house for our state IMA and they have been felicitated on that night along with new chairman & vice-chairman of A.P. medical council –Dr.B.S.Yadav & Dr.K.L.Sampat Kumar amidst much fanfare.

In march-09 – attended well organized “presidents & secretaries meet” at delhi IMA H.Q., where we got rave reviews for our presentation and for the work initiated & ignited by Dr.N.Appa Rao.
Everybody was exclaimed about our disbursal of 20 lacs to the grieved family of a demised scheme member.
Every member of other state IMA’s got excited by our role in promulgation of medical protection act.
Every leader was in awe, on hearing that we didn’t taking any allowances for our contribution to the association.
Every person was found with admiration for Dr.N.Appa Rao for his non-controversial Gandhian way of running our association smoothly with out any petty politics.

In a nut shell, this meeting was revelation to one and all .
Important submissions :
• We are also negotiating with principal health secretary- to relax the rules®ulations for small hospitals.
• We have submitted a memorandum to aarogya sri trust authorities ,requesting for empanelmemnt to even small hospitals i.e. 15 bed hospitals.
There are Number of service programs we have to do continuously, to justify our association as biggest N.G.O.-
• Pharmaco-vigilence
• Aao gaon-chalen
• Anemia eradication
• Disaster management committee formation at branch level
• Stop-sex selection campaign
• Vaccination programs especially of hepatitis-B
And we have to observe our traditional IMA days , CME programs, regional academic programs, formation of IMA- medical student wings at branch & regional levels and the most important is recruiting more doctors in to our fold to strengthen our association in all aspects.
And imparting our take home message is-
Contribute to the association
Convince new doctors to enroll as IMA member.
Convey positive feedback to the executive leaders.
