This is an important mnemonic for every family physician to memorise----
ECG Formulae & Clinical Implications
P = Atrial activity (look for disorders of atria)
Q = Ventricular inactivity (fibrosis or infarction)
R = Ventricular activity (R is increased in LVH)
T = Height of T means stroke volume (Tall T is seen in bradycardia and in acute ischemic event)
U = Hypokalemia
PR = Time taken for an impulse to travel from SA node to Purkinje fibers (not SA to AV node)
QT = Systole (Prolonged in myocarditis)
ST depression = Endocardial injury
ST elevation = Pericardial injury
QRS = Ventricular conduction time
here is a eye opener for tele medicine- electronic consultatants. be ware!
Q. Should doctors give consultations on e-mail or telephone?
A. If one gives consultations on e-mail or telephone, one can be liable, if there is negligence. One should try avoiding giving such consultations, unless you are following that patient, and are aware of all aspects of the case. For new cases, one should not give a prescription without seeing the patient physically.
