The global goals of the campaign are:WHO DAY SLOGAN"- 1000 CITIES. 1000 LIVES.
1000 cities: to open up public spaces to health, whether it be activities in parks, town hall meetings, clean-up campaigns, or closing off portions of streets to motorized vehicles.
1000 lives: to collect 1000 stories of urban health champions who have taken action and had a significant impact on health in their cities.
Urbanization & global warming: a challenge for public health.
Virtually all population growth over the next 30 years will be in urban areas, signaling that urbanization is here to stay. It is associated with many health challenges related to water, environment, violence and injury, noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and their risk factors like tobacco use, unhealthy diets, physical inactivity, harmful use of alcohol as well as the risks associated with disease outbreaks.
Improving urban living conditions in the areas of housing, water and sanitation will go a long way to mitigating health risks. Building inclusive cities that are accessible and age-friendly will benefit all urban residents.
We have quality allopathic graduates
We have sufficiently trained paramedical force.
We have good political leaders.
But we lack- the will to exert our wisdom in to action.
We have direction. But we lack dedication.
We are allocating insufficient budgets
We are faltering in implementation of poorly allocated budgets
We are lagging behind in execution of good envisioned programs like NRHM.
its proud to say that our A.P. along with other south indian states marching ahead in health care when compared to northern states.
In our so called developed state like A.P. ,deficiencies in the health scenario are as follows :
60% of sub-centers have no own building and have no male health workers.
10% of PHCs have no working allopathic doctors.
40% of PHCs have no working electric & phone connection.
70% of CHCs have the deficit of specialist doctors.
District hospitals are plagued with dearth of quality equipment and human resources.
Inadequate drug supply at all levels.
Private players are focusing only on emerging technologies, tertiary care and drug chain industry.
No private player or NGO is focusing on primary preventive care.
It’s high time that every player in the health care has to commit themselves to address these lacunas and deficiencies in the system.
The mantra is- affordable and sustainable quality health care to all by 2020.
· Moulding and modulating the healthy dietary habits which will make strong base to the health pyramid..
· Successful implementation of “vaccination schedule” prevents 10 types of deadliest diseases.
· Provision of safe water, mosquito nets &repellants prevents another 10 deadly diseases.
· Sustainable Distribution of folic acid, iron, iodine and vit.A –prevents millions of deaths and morbidity.
· Simple provision of deworming tablets at school level prevents millions of malnutrition cases.
· 90% of cardiac diseases and diabetes are preventable.
· T.B. is curable with simple methodology- DOTS.
· Using condom prevents 90% incidence of HIV.
· Making&keeping our environment green, stops the impending doom of global warming.
No doubt, the state (govt.) has the responsibility to provide minimum balanced food, primary health awareness along with primary education and primary timely justice to one& all. At the same time, citizens must comply with discipline- of food, of habits and of actions.
What IMA can do?
As an association of major role players, IMA can participate at all levels in all ways. We are ready for public-private partnership to improve the health care and to achieve the goal of sustainable good health indicators.
IMA is ready to play its role to achieve the Millennium development goal i.e.
· One allopathic doctor for every 500 people
· Quality health care establishments nearer to the people-with in one km.radius.
· Infrastructure development to improve the safe water supply & sanitation.
· Implementation of preventive programs at grass root level.
IMA has been stressing these above points since so many years. It’s ever ready with 2 lac doctors, to do what ever responsibility that the govt.gives.
It’s my promise. It’s our commitment.
