The 76 year old autonomous institutionMCI's 150 members were sacked and were replaced by a 6 member panel of renowned doctors to carry on with the duty.
The panel comprises of the chief- the famed gastroenterologist Dr. S K Sarin of Delhi, whereas the rest five members of the panel comprise of Prof Ranjit Roy Chowdhary-former director of National Institute of Immunology, Dr Gautam Sen-cardiac surgeon, Dr Sita Naik from SGPGIMS, Dr Devi Shetty and the ex-head of Safdarjung Hospital, Dr Sita Naik from SGPGIMS.
MCI's new panel will take on the earlier tasks that involved granting and recognition to medical degrees, registering of medical practitioners, monitoring the medical practices and giving accreditation to medical colleges.
